This time of year shouts of back-to-school, upcoming elections, fall and winter gardening tips, seasonal change of clothing, football, preparation for lots of family activities and holidays. This might even be the busiest time of the year.

The weather is still quite wonderful for kite flying; the air is calmer and the changing trees create a colorful backdrop for the kites.

BUT… let’s step out of the box for a minute: our kits assemble into wonderful gifts. Think about it---lots of holiday gifts are hand crafted. Instead of candy, cookies, fancy foods, why not make kites and decorate them for the person receiving them? A perfect individual gift that tells whoever is getting the kite that you are encouraging him/her to release the kid inside.

Kites…on a Roll® News

There are several books that might interest you or someone you know:

Catch a Fish, Throw a Ball, Fly a Kite by Jeffrey Lee. This 273 page paperback discusses “21 Timeless Skills” Every Child Should Know”. Some of the activities you did when you were a kid, some you wanted to know about when you were younger. Now you can master all 21. These activities balance electronic games, and television. Not only will you learn what to do with kids, but also how to teach them these wonderful, life-long skills.

Kids Outdoor Parties, Hundreds of Fun Things to do Outdoors for Kids 2-12 by Penny Warner. Pay particular attention to pages 62-64 which discusses a kite making party (and cake) for kids 8-12.

Drachen Foundation (Seattle WA) has created 4 wonderful pieces about different aspects of kiting: Flying a kite, Why a kite needs a tail, What is a Dihedral, Forces of flight. We are happy to send you a copy of any or all of the articles. Contact us at judy@kitesonaroll.com or call 800-257-4222 and tell us what you would like to read.
