When I read the garden section of my newspaper at this time
of year, I feel I could substitute the word KITE for GARDEN.
This is clean-up time; this is prepare-for-spring
time. Before you know it, there will be terrific kite
flying weather, and your fall preparation will let you and
your kite get outside quickly.
Kites…on a Roll®
News
The Internet always amazes me with its vast amount of
information. I have found more additions
for our LINK page: one calculating kite altitude, one
giving more classroom help and one listing kite events
throughout the world. Check out these different sites. Let
me know what you think about our selection. And please let
me know what sites you would like us
to consider for our LINK page.
Remember, they have to be kite informative.
In addition to tails adding stability to some kites, they
are also considered to be line laundry, lightweight
objects that are fastened to the flying line to add color,
action and, in some cases, a sense of humor. Party stores
and Christmas stores have a huge variety of product that
can be used as line laundry. Since our kites are made of
plastic or paper (Fly Me Kite Kits), make sure that your
items are lightweight.
Sorry to announce this, but prices and shipping
charges will go up in January.
Hints for an Easier Activity
One of our very helpful teachers gave us 2 very good ideas
to pass on. Make sure you allow enough time for both the
drying of markers and glue on the kite sails and the
flying of kites once they’re completed. We give an
approximate time allotment for each pattern, but you know
your group. Consider your kite makers when planning the
amount of time needed for the whole activity.
She also suggested numbering the kite patterns as you cut
them off the roll in case you don’t use all 20 of them.
Make sure the first pattern left on the roll has the next
number. Thus, you will have an idea of how many more kites
you can make another time.
